Trail Upgrade Project 2003

In the winter of 2002 - 2003 the new trail committee was given the task of finding out what it would take to get a larger groomer on

our trails. At that time about 45 miles of trail were being groomed with four skandics and 4' drags. Some of the bridges could

be used but there were others only wide enough for a snowmobile. To make matters worse, three that needed an upgrade were

on major traffic trails. It was determined in order to get at least a 6' groomer on our trails any bridges built from that point on should

be at least 11' wide and rated at 5 ton load.  Some culverts had to be wider and some new ones added.

It looked like a big job, and it was.   This would turn out to be a 3 year project!

Old bridge

Only 4' wide and in tough

 shape!

First 12 Foot Bridge

In September of 2003 we built the first new bridge.

The poles were donated and the decking boards were added.

New Bridge

Wow!  Two lane traffic

 with guard rails.

Let's see how it works

Stress Test

If it holds up a truck it

should hold a Sur Trac!

Well, OK a Geo Tracker.

The Bridge Crew takes a

 well deserved break. It

was hot that weekend.

We started Friday night,

 finished in time for the

 race on Sunday!

This bridge and a few culverts were finished before an early freeze. We did not have a larger groomer yet.
